Summary:
6 Points Sci-Tech Academy is a Jewish residential summer camp for rising 5th-10th graders. The summer is divided into three two-week sessions where campers have a chance to choose a workshop and electives to participate in. There is a East camp located in Byfield, MA founded in 2014 and a West camp located in Thousand Oak, CA founded in 2018. I worked as a Counselor at Sci-Tech East in Summer 2014 and a Robotics Instructor in Summers 2015-2017. Alongside a Co-Instructor I developed and implemented the Robotics curriculum. The universal design for learning and experiential education were at the core of the curriculum. Over four summers the Robotics Workshop grew from 15 campers per session to over 50 and was always camp’s most popular workshop. Product Description: Each two week session begins with a two day introduction to the VEX IQ (5th-7th grades) or VEX EDR (8th-10th grades) building systems and software. The competition is introduced to the campers and they are divided into teams of two or three to build their robot. On the last day of each session the team's robots compete. Talk about the 5 games I designed, break them into two group? My Role: As one of the Robotics Co-Instructors I split my time between the four different classes we taught (5th-6th, 7th, 8th-9th and 10th grades) organized based on age and experience. In addition, I owned competition development and manufacturing following the FIRST Robotics Competition model of Gracious Professionalism. The competition development process began with a set of initial planning meeting consisting of myself, my Co-Instructor and the Camp Directors. We would layout the requirements of the competitions. From there I would go and create a setup of ideas and Autodesk Inventor drawings of the field. Final drawings of the field were presented to the Camp staff and a Bill of Materials was made. Once I arrived at camp for the summer the materials were purchased and using the on-site wood shop, I constructed the fields so that they were ready for the campers arrival. |
